English Drama course

Aika ja paikka

29.08.2010-20.05.2011 (9 kk)
Länsi-Suomen opisto, Huittinen

”You do not have to be mad about theatre…”

The course operates as a springboard for those with a view to further study in Drama but has been enjoyed by many who have not followed that path. Some former students have gone on to become actors, teachers of theatre and even film directors, but many have gone on to do things that are not related to Drama – and they still found their time here to be useful and enjoyable.

A combination of practical work (learning by doing) and academic work, the course encourages not only study and skills for Drama but also skills for life!

The coursework will normally include (to a greater or lesser extent) all of the following:

- Study of playwrights and theatre practioners
- Theatre history
- Theatre-in-Education
- Performance skills
- Stagecrafts
- Creative writing
- Film
- Development of English language and
  communication skills

Eache course is unique as the teaching is student-centred.It is as much about having fun and expressing yourself in a second language as it is about Drama! Warning: it is a commitment and can be hard work but is rewarding!

“My understanding of life and art have improved a lot. My language skills have also improved…simply the best course that I’ve been on”
(Juha, 25 year old student on English Drama course 2005-2006).

Further study is also considered. The course leader has contacts at Drama schools in Britain and other countries. The course can work as a springboard for those motivated students considering a higher level of study in this area. But it is not just for them. Many students have studied here and not pursued a career in this area but have enjoyed and learned.
The course leader is a very experienced teacher/lecturer and a professional actor/writer.
He has taught/lectured at colleges and universities in Britain, Finland and Russia.
He has been running the course at L-SO for over 10 years.

In Finnish - Näyttelijäksi

Kurssin opetuskielenä on englanti, joten edellytyksenä on kohtuullinen englannin kielen taito. Cambridgen Advanced Certificate tutkinnon suorittaminen on myös mahdollista.

Työskentely on intensiivistä painottuen käytännön työhön produktioita tuottamalla. Ohjattua työskentelyä on vähintään 25 tuntia viikossa, keskimäärin kuitenkin 40-50 tuntia.
