Finnish Polytechnics Access Training Courses
This pre-college training program is an intensive preparation course for developing linguistic and cultural competence for higher education.
The training program is non-degree study aimed to improving the capability of foreign students in preparing their way to study in Finnish polytechnics for bachelor degrees.
The preparation course provides the student with a better chance of success in Finnish Polytechnics' entrance examinations.
The qualification certificate of Polytechnics is valid for working in the area of studied sciences in Finland and all EU-countries.
Year after year studying in Finland has been becoming more and more popular with foreign students due to a high quality of Finnish higher education which is free of charge.
This kind of course is useful because it usually takes long time to adapt to the Finnish education system and also commonly to the Finnish culture as a foreign student.
After this course students are more prepared than other foreigners and are ready to start study immediately without suffering long lasting culture shock.
All in all there are twenty-eight Polytechnics in the country but West Finland College's preparation program is aimed to train students for entering the two biggest and most prestigious schools in Helsinki's region: Haaga-Helia and Metropolia.
Content:
The training includes three modules:
1) Preparatory Studies for the Exams of Higher Education Institutions,
2) Language Studies including English and basic Finnish language
3) Integrating Cultural Studies.
In order to provide more opportunities for the students to learn about Finnish culture and customs, as well as the education systems and universities during the three-month-study in Finland, we organize activities for the students to get familiar with the local life and facilities, and visits to universities, as well as gatherings with local residents.
The course includes English language studies, entrance exams' training, network studies, math studies and of course an introduction into Finnish culture, study environment and everyday life.
The first stage of the program is a three-month period in Russia or Mexico run under the instruction of a Finnish teacher.
From the very beginning of the course the students are familiarized with Finnishness and the Finnish way of speaking English.
These will remarkably reduce students' language problems when they arrive in Finland and begin to study in Finnish higher education institutions.
The second stage starts when the students arrive in Finland for a three-month intensive part of the course.
During that session the students apply to the Polytechnics, discover life in Finland in practice, visit different education institutions and cultural places, enlarge their competence in English studies etc. and learn about different study methods.
The approval of participants is carried out by West Finland College.
Candidates' English skills and competence in the areas of natural science will be tested and every candidate will be interviewed personally.
West Finland College offers this course as a paid service.
Students are responsible themselves for the payments.
