Spanish for travellers – an intensive Spanish course at West Finland College
On the course we focus especially on speaking and understanding – exactly the skills a traveller needs. You will learn the most important phrases and vocabulary for situations such as:

ordering in a restaurant
-
shopping
-
getting around and finding your way
-
accommodation
-
and small talk with locals.
We will also explore the culture and customs of Spain and Latin America, so that you understand your surroundings better and gain the confidence to interact with others. Grammar is studied in a practical way through a variety of conversation exercises.
We study five lessons a day, from Monday to Friday – that is, 25 lessons a week. The studies are intensive and guarantee rapid progress. In the course of a month you take a huge leap forward: it corresponds to as much as several years of study at an adult education centre.

The course is right for you if you are a complete beginner or if you have studied before but only remember individual words of the Spanish you once learned – what matters most is enthusiasm and a desire to learn. After the course you will be a considerably more confident user of Spanish and ready to enjoy your trip without a language barrier!
There are on average 25 lessons of contact teaching per week, Mon–Fri 9.00–14.00.
Breakfast is served between 8 and 9 and lunch between lessons at around 12 in the college dining hall on teaching days.
You can also study remotely from home. The course is run in hybrid form via the Zoom app.
A remote student must have:

sufficient IT skills to use Zoom smoothly
Teacher: Kristian Hannikainen – a language professional who speaks fluent Finnish and brings genuine experience of everyday life in Spanish to the teaching.

Price: 490€ / student. The price includes tuition as well as breakfast and lunch on teaching days.
Price for distance learning: 390 € / student. The price includes tuition via a remote connection.

TEACHER KRISTIAN HANNIKAINEN
Kristian Hannikainen's father is Finnish and his mother is Italian. He has spent a large part of his life abroad, for example in Brazil, Italy and England, where he went to school. After returning to Finland to complete his military service, he moved to Mexico, where he studied Latin American literature at the Iberoamericana University. He then taught English, Spanish and Italian there for 23 years. He returned to Finland in 2015, where he has taught languages at the adult education colleges of Sastamala, Huittinen and the Pyhäjärvi region and at West Finland College.
