The partner dance course offers you the chance to develop as a dancer and to discover new perspectives on the world of dance! The experienced teachers at West Finland College will support you on your journey towards a broader knowledge of dance.
During the three-month partner dance course you will broaden your skills from the perspective of your own dancing, working with a partner, dance music and pedagogy.

The partner dance teachers at West Finland College are made up of a varied
line-up of dance professionals.
The lead teacher in partner dance is dance teacher Liisa Kontturi-Paasikko. A dance enthusiast who has won several awards in the field, she has worked as a dance teacher for over 40 years. She runs her own dance school, teaches actively in the world of social dance and trains instructors and teachers in the field.

Visiting teachers are responsible for teaching the secondary dance styles on the programme.
The secondary style varies from one course to the next.
While studying on the partner dance programme:

A dance course that broadens your skills even further! The core values of the partner dance course at West Finland College are based on the idea of lifelong learning, in which the journey travelled through moments of insight takes centre stage. The aim of the programme is to give you strong experiences of the different natures of partner dance, an understanding of dancership and teaching, and knowledge of music and culture.
Teaching is normally held from Monday to Thursday between 9 and 16.
On the dance course we dance alone, in pairs and in a group, changing partners. So you do not need a partner of your own.
The main content of the partner dance programme:

the basics of social dance: standard and Latin-based styles and the best-known swing-based styles

the dancer's wellbeing - pilates, body maintenance

the side styles will be announced later

the content of the theme week held during the long course will be announced later

dance knowledge - the rhythms of dance music, the development of popular music, Finnish social dance in the past, the present and the future

PLEASE NOTE! The teaching days for the side styles and the theme week are open to everyone. Register for the secondary style teaching days by sending an email to: opisto@lsopisto.fi (The dates will be announced later)
You can take part in the secondary style teaching on individual days or for the whole period at the following prices:
1 day: 80 €
2 days: 130 €
All 6 days: 380 €
In addition to the teaching, the prices include breakfast and lunch on teaching days. The price is the same whether a person attends the whole day or, for example, only one lesson.

Price: 600€ / instalment (the programme is paid in 3 instalments, 1800 € in total). The price includes the teaching as well as breakfast and lunch on teaching days.

What do you learn on the dance course?
On the West Finland College dance course you learn many different dance styles. The partner dance courses focus on the basics of social dance, on learning standard and Latin dances, on dancer wellbeing, body maintenance, dance pedagogy and dance knowledge.
This is therefore a considerably more comprehensive dance course than traditional courses. During the varied training, your skills and your knowledge of dance will grow. On the courses you dance alone, in pairs and in a group. So you get to develop your skills at an individual level while also gaining skills for group dance.

The course gives you the skills to work as a dance teacher or as a dance professional. On the dance course, the journey travelled through moments of insight is placed at the heart of learning.

The dance course offers a deep look at dance technique and dance styles. Different dance styles, mastering them and immersing yourself in them are a central part of all West Finland College dance courses. All the styles are covered during the dance course, but students can also influence which dances they study during their independent work.
Who can take part in the partner dance course?
You can register for the partner dance course on your own or with a partner. The dance course is aimed at dancers who already have previous experience of dance. Both hobby dancers and those who want to dance professionally can register for the course.
In practice, however, the dance course is suitable for anyone who has a basic knowledge of dance as well as the desire to develop as a dancer and the enthusiasm to learn new things. At the same time, the dance course offers a chance to learn more skills that are useful for a dancer, as well as dance pedagogy.
How do I register and how much does the dance course cost?
You can register for the three-month dance course on the West Finland College website. The partner dance course is held on site at the college in Huittinen, where you can learn to dance in beautiful surroundings and a welcoming atmosphere!
The partner dance course costs 600 euros per month. The price includes breakfast and lunch on all teaching days, so a meal is always ready and waiting for you.
The college has good accommodation options, so you can rent a room from us at an affordable price. That means you get to study in an environment where you can concentrate solely on the dance course and on learning to dance for three months.

We do not start the dance course from the very basics, so this is an excellent opportunity to develop as a dancer.
