ENGLISH FOR TRAVELLERS AT WEST FINLAND COLLEGE
The teaching follows Finn Lectura’s Around the World textbook. The book focuses on English for travellers. You learn the language in a practical way through plenty of pair and group discussions. The Finnish and English characters in the book travel around the world, and each chapter of the course follows a different stage of the journey: from travel preparations to the flight, checking into a hotel, dining in a restaurant, renting a car, shopping and small talk conversations.
In addition, you will get to know the phonetic symbols of the "I.P.A." International phonetic alphabet, which help you learn to pronounce words correctly. The course includes plenty of pronunciation exercises and listening exercises featuring different accents.
The course and its material are suitable for levels A2–B2.
Teaching is held from Monday to Friday, a total of 25 x 45 min, with classes between 9 and 14.

You can also study remotely from home. The course is run as a hybrid via the Zoom application.
Remote students must have:

MEALS
Breakfast is served in the college dining hall at 8-9 and lunch at 12.15–13.15.
PRICE
Price: 490€ / student. The price includes the teaching as well as breakfast and lunch on teaching days.
Price for remote study: 390 € / student. The price includes the teaching via a remote connection.

Cancellation terms:
A short course can be cancelled free of charge no later than 14 days before the course starts. For cancellations made after that, we charge 50 % of the course fee. For cancellations made less than 2 days before the course starts, we charge the full course fee. Please note that failing to pay for the course or failing to attend is not a cancellation.
Remember to provide your bank details for the refund.
West Finland College has the right to cancel a planned course if not enough participants register for it. In such a case, course fees already paid are refunded in full. If a course is cancelled or interrupted due to official regulations or recommendations, the payment obligation ends immediately.
YOUR TEACHER
KRISTIAN HANNIKAINEN
Kristian Hannikainen´s father is Finnish and his mother is Italian. He spent most of his life abroad and after growing up in such diverse places as Brazil, Italy and Mexico, he finished school and got 3 A-levels in the UK. After completing his military service in Finland he left for Mexico in 1992 to study Latin American Literature at Iberoamericana University and spent the next 23 years teaching English, Spanish and Italian. He returned to Finland in 2015 where he has been a freelance language teacher.
Kristian Hannikainen's father is Finnish and his mother is Italian. He has spent a large part of his life abroad, for example in Brazil, Italy and England, where he went to school. After returning to Finland to complete his military service, he left for Mexico, where he studied Latin American literature at Iberoamericana University. After that he taught English, Spanish and Italian there for 23 years. He returned to Finland in 2015, where he has taught languages at the adult education colleges of Sastamala, Huittinen and the Pyhäjärvi region and at West Finland College.
