CIAO ITALIA! – ITALIAN BASICS FOR TRAVELLERS
COMING IN APRIL 2027!
Salve! Would you like to learn how to order a pizza, buy a gelato, ask for a spritz on a terrace, deal with a hotel reception or ask for directions on the piazza? This practical course gives you exactly the Italian language skills you need as a traveller in the land of the boot.
Beginner's Italian for travellers – 4-week intensive course
Over four weeks we focus on exactly the everyday situations in which a traveller needs confidence:

hotel reception
-
ordering in a restaurant
-
shopping and visiting the pharmacy
-
buying tickets for events and transport
-
conversations with locals – from ordering at the gelateria to friendly small talk.
The focus is on communication and understanding – the aim is that you can interact naturally and enjoy your trip to the full. Grammar is practised to support speaking skills, and at the same time we get to know Italian culture and customs through texts and conversations.
There are five lessons a day from Monday to Friday, that is 25 lessons a week – an intensive pace with which you achieve in four weeks what would take several years at an adult education centre.
Teacher: Kristian Hannikainen, who has Italian as one of his two native languages. He is also fluent in Finnish and English, which makes studying smooth and inspiring.
Learning material: In viaggio (Finnlectura, level A1, to be purchased by the student).
There are on average 25 contact lessons a week, Mon-Fri 9.00–14.00.
Breakfast is served 8-9 and lunch between lessons at around 12 in the college dining hall on course days.
You can also study remotely from home. The course is organised as a hybrid via the Zoom application.
Distance learners must have:

Teaching: Mon–Fri 9.00–14.00, on average 25 lessons per week
Price: 490€. The price includes tuition as well as breakfast and lunch on teaching days.
Price for distance learning: 390€. The price includes tuition via a remote connection.

TEACHER KRISTIAN HANNIKAINEN
Kristian Hannikainen's father is Finnish and his mother is Italian. He has spent a large part of his life abroad, for example in Brazil, Italy and England, where he went to school. After returning to Finland to complete his military service, he moved to Mexico, where he studied Latin American literature at the Iberoamericana University. He then taught English, Spanish and Italian there for 23 years. He returned to Finland in 2015, where he has taught languages at the adult education colleges of Sastamala, Huittinen and the Pyhäjärvi region and at West Finland College.
