NIINA FILI

Jazz and contemporary dance, basic ballet technique, choreographic work, body maintenance

Niina is a dance pedagogue with a keen interest in holistic human growth and in the possibilities of embodied practice. She holds a Master's degree in Education, a dance teacher degree (UAS) and a Somatic Pilates instructor qualification, and she has worked for several years with dance and movement as a teacher and also as a performer, focusing in particular on contemporary dance and somatic practice. Niina's teaching experience includes basic education in the arts and vocational dance training. At West Finland College she works not only as a teacher but also in curriculum planning.

Among the values she considers important in her teaching are meeting every participant with respect, a gentle attitude towards oneself, an inquisitive mind, the sharing of experiences and the joy of doing things together.

In Niina's classes students study jazz dance and contemporary dance as well as basic ballet technique, work on movement material through improvisation and choreographic tools, and train body awareness and body control, particularly through the Pilates method.

On the Partner Dance programme, Niina's teaching focuses on body maintenance. During the module students have the opportunity to observe their body — and thereby themselves — ever more closely, to sharpen their ability to sense changes in the body, to find more ergonomic ways of being and moving, and to free their bodily expression.
