ARGENTINE TANGO

On this Argentine tango course the aim is to get close to the "core" and the "heart" of the dance: you will strengthen your technical skills, broaden your movement vocabulary, learn more about the interaction between partners, get to know the culture and music of the dance, and dance at an Argentine tango ball, the ”milonga”.

The course is taught by Jenna Polvi.
On Tuesday and Wednesday, Fernando Waisberg joins her to teach as her partner.

This time we focus especially on practising communication and on finding and maintaining contact, so that the dance feels good - without forgetting technique and figure material suited to the theme.
The course days include dance classes, lectures and body maintenance for dancers.
We strengthen the basics of the movement language of Argentine tango and of working as a couple, train physical readiness and learn to dance to the music of different orchestras. We go through milonga conventions and the use of space. We explore tango music and its special features widely and from many angles.
Participants are required to have basic skills in Argentine tango; we will not be starting from the beginners' level.
MEALS
Breakfast is served in the college dining hall from 8–9 and lunch from 12.15–13.15.
PRICE
Price: 310 € / participant. In addition to the teaching, the price includes breakfast and lunch on all study days.

The college campus also offers accommodation.
Accommodation is in the Toivola dormitory. Some of the rooms have their own shower and toilet.
Some of the rooms do not have their own shower or toilet; the bathroom is located in the corridor.

Taught by Jenna Polvi
Jenna's background lies in jazz dance and team gymnastics, and she has also built up 15 years of experience in Finnish social dance.
She has studied Argentine tango around the world, in Argentina, Europe and Finland, for the past ten years.
Jenna, who has also trained as a physiotherapist, teaches partner dances and Argentine tango all around Finland in weekly classes and weekend events in cooperation with various organisations. The foundation of Jenna's teaching is music and dancing to music, and how the dance feels. She has been described as a multidimensional, consistent and personable pedagogue. Tango is in her, and it can be heard and seen everywhere.
Jenna has completed a dance teacher's degree (BA) at Oulu University of Applied Sciences and is the 2019 Finnish champion in lavatango.
