Description:
The popular English weekend course is running again – you can take part on site in Huittinen or remotely, as the course is delivered as a hybrid – welcome to join us, even from further away!
Would you like to develop your English skills for working life? Or perhaps you want to learn English for travelling, or to speak better English with your loved ones from abroad? On this English conversation and communication course, the main working methods are pair and group work. The course is run in workshop style, developing language skills through practical exercises based on each participant's own starting point.
The English weekend course gives you confidence and the skills to speak and understand English. Students are expected to have an A2–B1 level of English when the studies begin. At that level, every student is able to keep up at least a simple conversation in English.
The course is suitable for anyone in working life or retired who has the motivation and the desire to improve their spoken and listening English. Studying takes place on site in Huittinen or remotely from your own computer.
For remote study you will need:

your own headphones and microphone

a printer (during the course days the teacher sends out materials to be printed)

sufficient IT skills to use Zoom smoothly
The main aim of the English course is to develop students' skills in speaking English and to broaden their listening comprehension and vocabulary. On the course, English is practised through a variety of exercises and hands-on activities. Tasks are done both independently and in groups. There are six lessons of teaching per day.
A lunch break is held during the days.

Cancellation terms:
A short course can be cancelled free of charge no later than 14 days before the course starts. For a cancellation made after that, we charge 50 % of the course fee. For cancellations made less than 2 days before the course starts, we charge the full course fee. Please note that failing to pay the course fee or failing to turn up is not a cancellation.
Remember to give us your bank details for the refund.
West Finland College has the right to cancel a planned course if not enough participants register for it. In such a case, course fees already paid are refunded in full. If the course is cancelled or interrupted due to official regulations or recommendations, the obligation to pay ends immediately.

YOUR TEACHER
KRISTIAN HANNIKAINEN
Kristian Hannikainen´s father is Finnish and his mother is Italian. He spent most of his life abroad and after growing up in such diverse places as Brazil, Italy and Mexico, he finished school and got 3 A-levels in the UK. After completing his military service in Finland he left for Mexico in 1992 to study Latin American Literature at Iberoamericana University and spent the next 23 years teaching English, Spanish and Italian. He returned to Finland in 2015 where he has been a freelance language teacher.
Kristian Hannikainen’s father is Finnish and his mother is Italian. He has spent a large part of his life abroad, for example in Brazil, Italy and England, where he went to school. After returning to Finland to complete his military service, he left for Mexico, where he studied Latin American literature at Iberoamericana University. After that he taught English, Spanish and Italian there for 23 years. He returned to Finland in 2015, where he has taught languages at the adult education colleges of Sastamala, Huittinen and the Pyhäjärvi region and at West Finland College.
