Summer high school subjects and daily programme

At West Finland Summer High School, students have the opportunity to study one or two subjects of their choice.

 

The subjects on offer are English, short mathematics and wellbeing.

Choose two courses: one of the morning courses and one of the afternoon courses. It is also possible to choose only one course. 

During the first week of study, teaching takes place Tue–Sat, and during the second week Mon–Fri.´Students who have chosen full board are served breakfast, lunch and dinner on every study day. On Sunday 11 June there are no lessons and no meals. Food can be stored and prepared in the dormitory kitchen. The nearest shop is about 2 km from the college. 

Daily programme of the summer high school: 

Breakfast at 8–9 in the college’s own dining hall (for students who have chosen full board)


Morning courses at 9–12.15 (CHOOSE ONLY ONE):
1. MAB revision course (2 credits, 40 lessons of contact teaching)
2. ENA revision course for final-year students (2 credits, 40 lessons of contact teaching)

Lunch at 12.15–13.15 in the college’s own dining hall (for students who have chosen full board).


Afternoon courses at 13.15–16.30 (CHOOSE ONLY ONE):
3. ENA1–2 revision course (4 credits, 40 lessons of contact teaching)
4. Wellbeing course for upper secondary students (2 credits, 40 lessons of contact teaching)

Dinner at 17.30–18.30 in the college’s own dining hall (for students who have chosen full board)

1 course/study period: 430€
2 courses/study periods: 650€    
In addition to accommodation and meals, the price includes 40 lessons of teaching. There is also a guided free-time programme on at least 1 evening a week and a riverside sauna at least once during the summer high school.

Summer high school subjects/ courses 

ENA 1–2 revision course 

Number of hours: 40 hours 
 

The course is suitable for students who have already completed the first year of upper secondary school English (A-language) studies and who want to complete a course credit they are still missing, raise their grade or simply improve their skills in modules ENA1–2. 
For students moving on to upper secondary school, the course offers an opportunity to get to grips with English content in advance and so lighten the workload of the coming academic year. 

  

During the course, the learning content of the upper secondary school English A-syllabus is covered for the following 
modules: 
ENA1 Study skills and building a language identity 
ENA2 English as a global language 

Completing the modules also requires independent work outside the lessons. 

ENA revision course for final-year upper secondary students 

Number of hours: 40 hours 

  

The aim is to prepare comprehensively for the autumn 2023 matriculation examinations. 

Reading comprehension, listening comprehension and essay writing are practised and vocabulary is expanded. Past matriculation examinations are reviewed and exam technique skills are learned. The course can be credited as an optional module at your own upper secondary school. 

MAB revision course 

Number of hours: 40 hours 

  

The revision course is suitable for students who have already completed the first or second year of short mathematics at upper secondary school and who want to complete a course credit they are still missing, raise their grades or simply improve their skills. Suitable for students following either the new or the old national core curriculum (LOPS). 
Students moving on to upper secondary school have the opportunity to get to grips with the MAY1 module and to become familiar with the mathematics software needed in upper secondary studies, and so lighten the workload of the coming academic year. 

  

During the course you can complete one of the following modules: 
MAY1 Numbers and equations 
MAB2 Expressions and equations 
MAB3 Geometry 
MAB4 Mathematical models 
MAB5 Statistics and probability 
MAB6 Basics of financial mathematics 

  

The course concentrates on working through the assignments of your own module. You will receive individual guidance from the teacher in completing the tasks. The emphases of the work are determined by the students' needs. 

Wellbeing course for upper secondary school students 

Number of hours: 40 hours 

  

The aim of the course is to support the student's wellbeing and ability to study. The course can be credited as an optional module at your own upper secondary school. 

The programme includes exercise, relaxation, tasks and practices that support mental wellbeing, as well as 
information on life management and on a diet that makes you feel good.
