The course explores acting while singing with the help of the Acting through song method, which the course teacher Petrus Kähkönen has himself studied in New York under David Brunetti.

How is composed music used in acting? How does music become justified from the point of view of acting? During the course we also look at what makes a good CV in the music theatre field and how to prepare as well as possible for auditions. In music theatre singing, the aim is to get the audience to listen to the story. With songs, the actor's expression goes one step further still; the biggest emotions in a scene are usually tied to precisely those songs that carry the story forward. When the transition from spoken text to song is seamless, the audience does not even notice that the actor is singing.

The course is aimed at young people (minimum age 16) and adults interested in making music theatre. It also works as a preparatory course for those applying to higher education in the performing arts. Both active and observer places are available.

The course days begin with a short theoretical part, after which we roll up our sleeves and get down to work in an open session. In the practical part, the focus is on one active participant at a time, working on a music theatre song of their own choosing. An open session is an open teaching situation built through shared discussion and exchange, with the teacher steering the work in a continually developing direction. There are active places for those who want to work on their own song performance in an open session, and observer places for those who would rather just follow the open session work.
