From 1892 to Today
Founded in 1892, West Finland College is Finland’s oldest Finnish-language folk high school. For more than 130 years, the college has brought together learning, culture, community, and an international outlook.
Today, we continue this legacy through lifelong learning, creativity, wellbeing, and international cooperation.
Our Journey
From its founding in 1892 to the present day, West Finland College has continued to grow while staying true to its educational roots. As Finland’s oldest Finnish-language folk high school, the college has a long tradition of supporting learning, culture, community, and personal growth.
Through different periods of Finnish history, the college has adapted to new educational needs while keeping its original spirit alive. What began as a place for folk high school education has developed into a welcoming residential learning community with language studies, wellbeing, creative learning, and international cooperation at its heart.
Today, West Finland College continues to connect its heritage with the future, welcoming learners, teachers, and partners from Finland and around the world.

Deep Roots
West Finland College was founded in 1892 and has played an important role in Finnish educational history. Its roots are connected to the folk high school tradition, where learning is seen as more than academic study — it is also about personal development, culture, community, and active participation in society.
These deep roots still shape the college today. The historic campus, long educational tradition, and peaceful surroundings create a meaningful setting where visitors can experience both the past and the present of Finnish education.

Welcoming Community
For generations, West Finland College has welcomed learners from different backgrounds, ages, and places. The college has always been a place where people come together to study, share ideas, build friendships, and grow as individuals.
Today, this welcoming spirit continues in our international cooperation. Visiting students, teachers, schools, and partner organizations become part of a warm campus community where learning happens through lessons, conversations, shared meals, activities, and everyday life.

Wellbeing at Our Core
Wellbeing has always been part of the West Finland College experience. A good learning environment is not only about lessons and schedules; it is also about feeling safe, supported, rested, and connected.
Our residential campus supports this balance. Peaceful surroundings, shared spaces, nature, meals, community life, and cultural activities help create an environment where learners and educators can focus, reflect, and feel at home. This caring approach connects our history with the way we welcome visitors today.

Rooted in History, Open to the World
West Finland College’s history is part of what makes every visit meaningful. Since 1892, the college has carried a tradition of learning, culture, community, and personal growth. These roots give the campus its character and create a strong foundation for the learning experiences we offer today.
At the same time, West Finland College is open to the world. Through international cooperation, study visits, language and culture programmes, teacher training, and campus-based learning, we welcome students, teachers, schools, and partners from different countries to learn, connect, and grow together.
Our story continues through every new group that arrives, every shared experience, and every partnership built across cultures. Here, heritage and international connection come together in a place where learning feels personal, peaceful, and meaningful.
