BURLESQUE WORKSHOP

Burlesque is a performing stage art in which you can see theatre, dance, comedy and circus combined with creative striptease.
The workshop offers a glimpse into the world of burlesque and a chance to experience the joy of expression and movement. We will practise classic moves (such as different shimmies and bump'n grinds), posing, a flirtatious walk, and various expressive and dance improvisation exercises. We will also put together a short choreography and get to play with gloves. If you wish, you can also develop your own burlesque character further. Above all, everything we do is about the joy of expression and movement and about listening to your own body.

The course is suitable for anyone who wants to develop their expression and throw themselves into the world of burlesque! If you are only just getting to know burlesque, the course gives you a good first taste of the genre, and if you have already sparkled on burlesque stages, you will gain new tools for your burlesque toolkit.
During the days there is a one-hour lunch break with your own packed lunch. So remember to bring food with you! The college has a fridge available and the possibility to make coffee and boil water for tea. During the course you can, if you wish, stay in the college's cosy manor surroundings.

Your teacher: Henna Valkeamäki
Henna Valkeamäki is a theatre maker and burlesque performer from the Pirkanmaa region. She works widely in the field of art as a freelancer: she teaches at a theatre college, acts, directs and writes scripts.
Henna has studied acting, physical theatre, music theatre and dance, and she is currently in her final year of studies in drama instruction at Turku Arts Academy.
Henna, or Marie Mint, has been performing burlesque since 2009, especially with her group Finnish Blonde Burlesque Troupe. For thirteen years now they have delighted audiences with their bold style, both on the big burlesque stages and at private parties. Henna also teaches burlesque dance classes, runs various workshops and gives private tuition in the art form.
As a teacher, Henna is encouraging and gentle.
